The family law refers to the rules of public order and social interest that regulate and protect the family and its members, as well as their organization and integral development, based on respect for the rights of equality, non-discrimination and respect for human dignity, in order to what is established in the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States and the international human rights instruments ratified by Mexico, applicable to the matter, fundamentally in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the Inter-American Convention to Prevent, Punish and Eradicate Violence against Women, as well as Labor carried out by the United Nations in favor of the family through the Division of Social Policy and Development of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs. Universal and regional instruments and activities that contain provisions aimed, among many other aspects, at strengthening the family's capacity to meet its own needs, the balance between work and family responsibilities, the prevention and punishment of family violence and improvement in the quality of life of family members.
